Heres a reason to keep your pet up to date on Rabies vaccine?
Fortunately in the US the rate of rabies human deaths is very low. Not so for the rest of the world, each year about 30,000-50,000 people die of rabies every year, the highest percentage coming from Asia, Africa and Latin America. Last year in China 2400 people died. The world health care organization(WHO) treated 10 million people world wide after being exposed to potential rabid animals.
Just as recently as June 34,000 dogs were clubbed to death because of 12 people who died of rabies in a Chinese city. Only 7% of the populations dogs are vaccinated. If countries around the world had better vaccine protocols for rabies, these horrific events wouldn’t occur.
Rabies vaccines are given by 6 months, 1 year and then every three years after for the life of the pet. Remember Rabies is a preventable disease. Any person exposed to a potentially rabid animal should seek immediate medical attention.
